Another year has slipped quickly by and the latest here
is the addition of the 2002 archives of my newsletter, "FUN ON THE WEB"
not blues oriented but just fun: humor and special sites selected by me.
There have been some modifications that I hope enhance the website, additional
pages added where previously other sites were used to highlight an artist
with multiple sites. Navagation links at the bottom of the pages
have been improved. New artists and travel pages have been included.
The What's New pages are separated by year for ease of loading.

I've been getting out to hear music regularly at Sandes
National Pastime where they have ALL Blues ALL the time.
The Clydemonster has been bringing the very best from far and wide including
Eric Sardinas, Howard
& the White Boys, Debbie Davies for a return visit, Mem Shannon.
Most recently we were privileged to see Carey Bell, Steady Rollin' Bob
Margolin, and Willie "Big Eyes" Smith perform together on one stage at
Sandes. It was a memorable evening with solo performances to please everyone.
Check out their upcoming schedule for the Best in the Midwest Blues but
let me tempt you with a few - Tab Benoit, Bernard Allison, and Little Charlie
& the Nightcats.

Bryan Lee performed
at Luther's Blues in Madison
WI. Originally from Two Rivers Wisconsin, Bryan plays a few gigs in Wisconsin
every summer including Summerfest.
We're glad Luther's Blues was one of them. Not only was the performance
excellent but it was a first visit to Luther's for me, but far from my
last. The showroom itself is wonderful, an old fashioned mahogany bar reminiscent
of another era, great sight lines, and a large dance floor in front of
the raised stage. Although I enjoyed the icy cold air-conditioning on a
steamy July evening, you might be wise to bring a sweater if easily chilled.
I am looking forward to going back and trying both their Crescent City
Grill, an upscale restaurant on the Lower Level, which is unfortunately
not handicapped accessible and the full menu at the main floor "French
Quarter Cafe" which was not available before this performance.

THE Belairs were at
Summerfest! What is there to say?
Perhaps Dick sums it up best, when he says "Indeed....we are The Belairs!"
A fabulous trio with a sound that denies the size of the band, a great
venue, a gorgeous sunny summer sky, blue with little puffy clouds overhead,
all contributed to the good time had by all. We always try to get to this
particular gig each year. Such a favorite with the crowds, it was moved
to the Harley stage this year (which is one of the bigger stages). They
played a number of favorites and enough new material that we wonder if
there is a new CD "in the works." Can't wait!!!

Howard
& the White Boys, are possibly "the" Chicago Band everyone has
talked about. Quickly rising from obscurity, getting together in college
in 1994 to jam, after a few months "opening" for B.B. King, then regular
appearances at Buddy Guy's "Legends", and performing with talents such
as Buddy Guy, Luther Allison, Koko Taylor, Albert King, and Junior Wells.
The wailing guitar of Rocco Calipari is offset with the smooth sounds of
Howard McCallum on vocals although Howard his some mighty guitar licks
of his own as well. Thanks to Clyde & Sande at Sandes National PastTime
for bringing Howard & the White Boys back!
From the looks of this I should be calling it what's old,
but as usual I've been too busy to get online and work on the site. So
many bands, so little time. Sigh...
A short note for those readers outside of my personal
friends: my mother passed away early this year. Obviously other things
have occupied my time this year and will continue into the new year.
I'm getting the Launch radio station straightened out but other music sources seem to be slipping away. WMSE.org and HOB.com don't have archives anymore. Some online radio has left the market entirely due to ongoing litigation.
BluesBaby would be interested in displaying blues related
pictures, particularly for any local bands that you would like to share.
If you have any events or pictures you would like to see listed, submit
them to: bluesbaby@usa.com.
