Thanksgiving page up and running! Check it out!
10-26-05 Working on the Halloween
Pages seems to be consuming lots of time! Check them out! Started a new page just for
Halloween recipes.
10-18-05 Working on the Halloween Pages has been
the latest task. Spent some time in California where it was hotter than I like
but glad to be back to the cool crisp fall of Wisconsin.
8-19-05 Boy have I been missing it!
There was a Luther Allison
Festival in Peoria on the 5th & 6th. Well all I can do is hope
is was a big success and try to go next year. I am continuing to add pics
to the website here.
I also found that I had created about 20 new pages in 2002 that were never
linked so I have updated them and linked them to Favorite
Artists Near and Far . Anywhere there is a *More
on that page will take you to a short bio page with more links to the artist.
By the way, coming events
and
Build Your
Own Blues Festival. It's on August 26th and 27th in Madison.

8-18-05 Finally getting this posted! This update includes
revised pages for Local
Blues Links, and Artists
Near and Far including a table and a better way to scoot down the page
by selecting a letter of the alphabet. I also added links to other blogs
and websites that I maintain and finally have figured out how to get a
handle on all the pictures. So I will be adding more and more of pics soon.
NEWS FLASH - There is a new blues festival for Madison.
It's the Build Your Own Blues
Festival. It's on August 26th and 27th from mid morning till
late night. A combination of paid and free venues with headliners like
Lonnie Brooks and James
Solberg on one day and Robert
Cray the next. There will be blues outside at the parks and the farmers
market, inside at the Orpheum and Barrymore Theaters, and at the clubs
later at night.
On a sad note, the fabulous "Little"
Milton Campbell passed away following a stroke. (September 7th 1934-August
5, 2005) He was 70. Also although he was not blues, R& B legend Luther
Vandross left us in July.(April 20, 1951 – July 1, 2005) He was 54.
And off course it is the anniversary of the King of Rock and Roll's death:
ELVIS
PRESLEY (January 8, 1935-August 16, 1977)
7-16-05 Marcia Ball
at Bastille Days was a
blast. The festival was hotter than the proverbial lowest levels of Hell
but we found a bit of shade and an occassional breeze to help it along.
Her tallness never disappoints and this was no exception. I happened upon
another legend, Milwaukee's own Rick
Holmes sitting near the stage and we chatted a bit between numbers
trying to figure out what the story was with the "Homeless Blues Festival"
later in the day on the south side of Milwaukee. Note: He seems to be involved
in a new band, which says it's rock but some of the members are blues or
boogie woogie oriented, so who knows, maybe it will be a blend of rockin'
blues I can enjoy. And there are always Blues Jams with Rick at the foreground
( Sunday at 4 pm Mustang Shellys in New Berlin and 9pm Sundays at Kokopellis
or an open jam with rotating hosts at Six Points Pub, 6200 W. Greenfield
Ave., West Allis, 414-773-4980
7-1-05 Letting my pocketbook vote for me on Summerfest.
I'm not going. This new guy has no idea how to book bands, which is demonstrated
when attendance figures are not made public during the festival. Give me
Bo Black any day! She built Summerfest from hard packed dirt and snow fenced
areas to a site that rivals any I have seen across the country with 13
stages and 75 acres of fully landscaped grounds with indoor plumbing and
raised handicap areas for good sight lines. I hope they get it right next
year cuz I sure will miss going but there is just not much there I want
to see this time.
Also sad to note the passing of Luther's Blues which was
a great spot to hear blues (and other music) with up to 400 of your closest
friends.
6-29-05 Whooo hoo! The Belairs
at River
Rhythms tonight. They were awsome and finally have a brand new CD "Got
Love". It was one of those perfect nights where the breeze keeps up with
the temperature so it's balmy. The music was the rockin rhythms we have
come to associate with the Belairs and we ran into the usual subjects while
we were there picnicing under the June sky.
6-14-05 Got to the Chicago
Blues Festival this weekend. It was really, really hot (both the temperature
and the bands.) Review
here: For my comments see my blog Rants
and Raves of the Bluesbaby The highlight of our stay was attending
Honeyboy
Edwards Birthday Party at The Hothouse
that was a tribute from friends, family and those lucky enough to score
tickets (US)! It was sold out and we finally got inside and upstairs to
find we had to locate our own seat by going from table to table asking
if there were any seats available.
Robert Jr. Lockwood,
Pinetop Perkins, Sam
Lay, Deitra Farr, Liz
Mandville Greeson, and many others sang and played 'til closing time,
but most people came to see Honeyboy. While Delta is not my favorite style,
he mesmerized listeners with both vocals and his Delta slide style guitar.
Honeyboy's longtime manager and sometime harpist Michael Frank for put
this gig together, MC'd and brought out his harp. Michael please keep putting
out those great records at Earwig
Music.
5-3-05 Off to PA for a while to visit the kids; be back
on the 10th. We are doing the tourist thing in DC and no blues on the horizon
for me :-( Before I forget, I will be gone but you can go to this terrific
show:
Blues & Brews at the Rhode Opera House May 7, 2005
6 to 11:45 p.m.
2-23-05 So much has gone on its hard to know where to
start but today is a beginning to updating this site. BB
King is coming to the Potowatomi
Northern Lights Theater in Milwaukee in March. Marcia
Ball will be here at Luther's
Blues March 12 and later in the month (March 24) Luther's will feature
Chris
Aaron with Clyde
Stubblefield and BLACK N' BLUES w/Ron Prince from Kinsey Report, Joe
Nosek from Cash Box Kings, and Catfish Stephenson.
2-15-05 Started a blues blog here: Rants
and Raves of the Bluesbaby I will be adding links to my
newsletter as well as photos and blues related items there.
1-1-05 Welcome back to my website! Been far too long since
I could do any updates. This year my goal will be to do a little bit at
a time rather than overhaul the whole site at one time.
